i am pleased to offer this beautifully restored, award winning 1969 COPO Camaro #9561. VIN # is 124379N662520. This car features L72 427 – 425hp engine with Muncie M-21 4 Speed Trans. Jerry MacNeish Comments |
COPO guru and historian, Jerry MacNeish has inspected and authenticated this great Camaro. He was very involved in the project from start to finish and has been flown out twice (beginning and end of the project) to critique and offer his expert advice on the car.
Below are his comments regarding this car:
“This 1969 Camaro, vin #124379N662520 has been certified by Camaro Hi-Performance. According to our data base and historical Chevrolet records, this car is a L72 COPO 427-425 horsepower V-8 with Muncie 4-speed transmission and factory BE 12-bolt rear axle. This Camaro and trim ID have been certified as rea and authentic COPO identification can be quantified by the following: Muncie transmission speedometer cable hold location, X11 body, hole piercing above the fuse box for ZL2 hood grommet and wiring, and tail pipe adapter plate welded on the original left side rear frame rail. The original frame rails were photographed and documented at the time of my first inspection. Norwood body numbers will usually (but not always) follow a sequence pattern with 427 Camaros produced at the Norwood plant. Summary: the car falls into the concourse restored category with nice attention to detail. Exact COPO production numbers are not known but it’s believed that approx. 1000 were produced. This car was found in a barn in the Wisconsin area.”
Awards Won |
This COPO has been shown at the 2009 and 2010 American Camaro Bowtie Class Nationals. In June of 2010, it scored a gold award with 991 out of 1000. It also has achieved a Concours Gold Certificate from the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in 2009. In March 2010, Jerry MacNeish gave his ultimate blessing by presenting the car with the Camaro High Performance Inc, Certificate of Authenticity. These are not given out lightly and prove beyond a doubt that the car is what it is being presented as.
All awards and documentation are included with the car.
The 1969 Camaro is undoubtedly one of the most popular cars of all time. When new, it sold well, and prices of perfectly restored examples are bringing big money. While standard Camaros are certainly valuable, with many for sale, the real, rare money cars have “COPO” figured into the equation.
COPO is an acronym for Central Office Production Order, and was the ticket to getting a souped-up Camaro with big-block power under the hood. Not just 396 power, but 427-cu.in. power with 425hp! There were several COPO designations, but basically, this meant there was a limited run of non-standard vehicles-something you could not order from Honest Harry at Chevy Land in Anytown, U.S.A.
In Summary |
Clearly if you desire a COPO and are on a budget, there are COPO Camaros out there that will be priced less than this one. Those cars will obviously be of lower quality and will not have the pedigree that this one has.
This car is for the collector who desires a concours/show quality car and for someone who likes to show their cars and win awards. The COPO Camaro is clearly a recognized investment grade car and you’ve always heard that it’s best to buy the best quality car that you can afford. If you can afford this one, there is no doubt that you will be proud to have it in your collection.
Vehicle Condition |
I have not personally inspected and photographed this Camaro. I am relying on the pictures and descriptions provided by the seller. The seller is also the shop that restored this car. They are one of the premier restoration shops in the country producing many award winning muscle cars etc.
This car is beyond reproach and has been blessed by the COPO guru Jerry MacNeish. Please read the entire description carefully and I’ll be glad to get any questions answered promptly.
I invite and encourage any interested party to inspect this rare COPO in West Suburban Chicago (about 40 minutes from O’hare Airport) and determine for yourself that this car is truly in excellent/show condition.
