Gibson Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar circa 1968

Offered today is a NOS (New Old Stock) Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar dating back to 1968. It has a beautiful Cherry Sunburst finish that looks incredible. Most importantly, there are no cracks and no repairs. There are no dings or dents on the guitar at all. All of the binding on the body and neck is in perfect condition – no separating, no splitting, bridge 100% intact just like new, etc. Remember that this is an unused guitar.
Serial number is 800413 and is inked on the back of the headstock and on maker’s tag. The orange model/serial tag is still intact and is very clear and legible in the sound hole.
Guitar also includes a vintage hard shell case in brown with red plush interior. Not sure if it is the original Gibson case so I will not represent it as such. It is the original case that the guitar came in way back when.
Comments from Hummingbird owners include:
– I’ve owned many guitars in my life, yet none can come close to the brilliant tone of this Hummingbird. This guitar stands out in a group, whether you play it soft or loud. It has so many voices that one could use it to play any style of music.
– Typical Gibson craftsmanship; a beautiful instrument!!!
– The Gibson Hummingbird is an icon amongst accoustic guitars. This guitar is superbly crafted out of beautiful woods, has a very close action, never goes out of tune, and has the sweetest tones of any guitar I’ve ever heard or played.
According to Gibson’s website:
“The Hummingbird was Gibson’s first 16” wide “dreadnought”-style guitar with the extra wide upper bout, known as the “square shouldered” body shape. To emphasize the importance of the new model, Gibson outfitted the Hummingbird with such eye-catching features as a cherry sunburst finish – the first on a Gibson flat-top – double parallelogram fingerboard inlays, multi-layered binding, and a modernized pickguard engraved with hummingbird and blossoms.
As discriminating guitarists immediately discovered, underneath the Hummingbird’s flashy ornamentation is a solid, high quality guitar. The square shoulders give it a powerful sound, and the mahogany back and sides give the tone a warm glow.
Artists who play Hummingbirds include Blind Melon and Elliot Easton”
