Bill Sanderson Original Scratchboard ‘Christmas Carol Ballet’

Bill Sanderson is considered England’s foremost scratchboard artist. Scratchboard is one of the world’s oldest art techniques, akin to medieval engravings that appeared in illuminated manuscripts. His initial editorial commissions were mainly for UK magazines (New Scientist, The Radio Times, etc) and The Times newspaper. Over the past thirty-five years, Bill’s delicate, labor-intensive technique has resulted in commissions as varied as book illustrations, magazines and advertisements, and produced diverse work for many designers.
In 2005 he won the V&A Book Cover and Jacket illustration award with Steve Snider, the designer, for ‘The Preservationist’ by David Maine.
Recently he has worked on several books by Felix Dennis, wealthy English entrepreneur and poet, particularly his three collections of verse, titled ’Lone wolf’, ‘A Glass Half Full’, and ‘When Jack Sued Jill –Nursery Rhymes for Modern Times’.
This piece titled ‘Christmas Carol Ballet ‘ (Festival Hall Programme) is available to purchase as an original scratchboard 10.5″ X 8″ for $1250.
