1990 Jaguar Custom XJ-LS Chevy V8 TV Build

The 6.0 Litre LQ4 engine is an industry standard for modern muscle. It features an iron block, completely rebuilt internals including all cam, main, and piston rod bearings along with the block decked and re-honed. TrickFlow specialties cylinder heads sit on top, along with a free flowing MSD “Atomic EFI” intake manifold, 92 MM cable driven throttle body, and Holley Mid-Mount accessory drive system. The Holley Dominator ECM controls the engine as well as transmission and is easily tuned by a network of Holley approved dealers and technicians. The fuel pump is the stock Jaguar pump, filter, and sending unit in the original location. The radiator/cooling fan module is a 1999-2002 Camaro unit and is controlled by a Painless Wiring dual fan controller. The exhaust includes Holly Hooker cast headers into a Magnaflow Stainless 2.5 inch system. The owner changed to mufflers to Walker units for a more refined sound, but the Magnaflow mufflers will go with the car.
Transmission is a new/remanufactured “Monster Transmissions” 4L80e 4 speed automatic unit with a mild/street torque converter for comfortable street driving. Shifting is controlled by the stock Jaguar shifter and cable. Driveshaft is a custom unit by “Denny’s Driveshafts”. The rear differential has been rebuilt with a Yukon Gear Master rebuild kit, changing the gears to a 3:30-1 ratio from the stock 2:88-1 which makes better use of the 4 speed automatic gear box, providing low RPM at. highway speeds. Wheels are 17 inch “Corvette” styled aftermarket aluminum, installed using wheel adapters to correct the offset and fit perfectly on the car. Jaguar decals have been tastefully placed over the Corvette center caps for an authentic detail. Tires are BF Goodrich 245/45/17 G-Force Sport Comp, and the combination of larger sizes and modern design give the car a current appearance without being excessive.
Front seats are from a 2002 BMW 3-series sedan and have been recovered as well as having seat heaters installed. They retain their 6 way power adjustability for passengers of any size. Rear seats have been reupholstered to match; both sharing the same pattern and grain as the original Jaguar upholstery to retain the classic appearance. Interior trim and door cards have been color-changed to black, and the original burled wood has been wrapped with a carbon-fiber look vinyl for an updated appearance. HVAC is now handled by a “Vintage Air” complete system and the center vents have been upgraded to 1994 and up vents, giving the driver better control of airflow. Engine communication and gauges are from Dakota Digital and read from a combination of engine sending units and the HOLLEY Dominator ECU. Stereo is a new Pioneer (bluetooth) CD/head unit with aftermarket 5.25 inch speakers front and rear. An “electric Life” power door lock kit has been installed to replace the original and functions from a new fob and control unit. Headliner has been recovered with ultrasuede. A new carpet system has been installed. The factory Lucas “Prince of darkness” problematic wiring system was removed from the vehicle and replaced with a “Painless Performance” Pro-system with 28 circuits and modern reliability. The headlight dimmer has been moved to the floor and is no longer on the column switch.

Many dollars have been spent on Jaguar replacement parts including window lifts, brackets, trim pieces, seals, and other details to give the continuity to this hybrid mix. Although it will mostly no longer apply with the aftermarket parts and upgrades, the original owner’s manual, warranty cards, cassette maintenance kit, and driver’s handbook are all still with the car as is the original Jack. A Haynes repair manual and a complete XJS parts manual are also included. The total parts value (labor or the purchase price of the car not included) is estimated just north of $31,000.
