1990 Corvette ZR-1 CPC Test Mule Super Rare and Documented

I am pleased to offer this very rare 1990 Corvette ZR-1 “test mule” serial (VIN #00077). The car was charged or sold to CPC (Chevrolet/Pontiac – Canada Group) and it was used extensively on the show circuit and for testing. It was not titled until 1997. Normally, these test mules are not normally sold to the public but instead would be destroyed/crushed. Luckily, this one was not destroyed and it “got away”. Car comes with lots of documentation including GM window sticker and BUILD sheet showing delivery to CPC in Michigan. This is really a piece of American automotive history that survived (thank goodness). VIN # is 1G1Y23JDL5800077 (77th ZR1 produced).
This car was built in Aug 1989 and 1 of 84 that were hand built and used for magazines, testing at the historical Chevrolet/Pontiac center in Michigan, as well as sent overseas or given to GM executives. This car was extensively used by the team at CPC until 1995 when it was auctioned with the testing prototype parts still installed. It was rare if any of the test mules left CPC intact, most were destroyed.
Car has VERY NICE paint with 62,000 actual miles. ALWAYS STORED INSIDE. Runs well however, 3RD gear syncro may need to be replaced. AC blows cold. Owner has driven this car to Michigan and back to Florida with NO issues.
Though the Corvette ZR-1 did not go on sale in the U.S. until the 1990 model year, it was in development for quite some time before. Twenty-five test mules were built in the years before the Corvette ZR-1’s release to test all the new componentry. Some of those were shipped to Europe for extensive testing. After testing was completed, GM ordered the test mules be destroyed, and 23 of the 25 were.
This is one that didn’t get destroyed as it was broke down in a warehouse at (CPC) Chevrolet Pontiac Canada and was forgotten. When Chevrolet filed bankruptcy they were ordered to sell all inventory and the car was discovered and had to be sold.
