1965 Deluxe Sting-Ray, Original Unrestored Black
I am pleased to offer this incredible 1965 Deluxe Sting-Ray, original unrestored black, J39, 2-speed kick-back, serial number CA37137, built on March 12th, 1965.
This Black Deluxe Sting-Ray has been in the owner’s collection for a long time and is 100% original down to the tires, which are a whitewall sting-ray studded rear tire and matching original white wall front tire. As you can see from the photos in the photo section as well as the description section, it does have some patina and age freckling in various spots, but overall, is in amazing original condition for what it is.
The paint on the frame is entirely original, as is the chainguard, with the correct reverse screen still fairly sharp. Every other part on the bike is correct, as far as I can tell, including the sissy bar, seat cover, and pan. Chrome is in fair shape and is also original. The white wall tires are original and are rare by themselves.
The bike was manufactured on March 12, 1965, which coincides with the rest of the black Sting-Rays that have been discovered over the years. Most, if not all, were built at the beginning of March, 1965, supposedly for a Schwinn dealer in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area.
The Bendix blue band 2 speed overdrive hub is working, and as you can see is in good original condition. There is absolutely nothing you will have to do to this Sting-Ray to either ride it or more than likely, just enjoy looking at it like I have over the years.
I’ve heard the stories over the years of the black Sting-Rays (like everyone else) and looked for a black Deluxe ‘65 for a long time. This is the one I was lucky enough to find through another friend and collector. It is one of the better original black ’65 Sting-Rays out there, and is going to be nearly impossible to duplicate because of the original condition and rarity.
