Vintage Set of 6 North Drums with Hardware plus Bonus Snare Mint Condition
I am pleased to present this rare vintage North Drum Kit in arctic white. It is being offered by the original owner who is an amateur drummer and noted that the drums have very little usage and have been properly stored for the past 30 years.
The set includes the following:
– 6″ tom tom
– 8″ tom tom
– 10″ tom tom
– 12″ tom tom
– 14″ floor tom tom
– 22″ x 22″ bass drum
– plus TAMA Superstar maple white shell snare drum 14″ x 6″
– Includes all original North mounting hardware – All chrome pieces are in excellent condition. No pitting or scratches.
The bass drum has the original natural skin type head, but all others have black oil heads (two layers of skin with oil inside for better and deeper sound on drums such as these that do not have bottom heads)
The owner took extreme care when preparing this set for storage some 30 years ago. He wiped the drums down with cottom towels to remove any fingerprints and skins oils and then wrapped each individual drum in plastic to help limit any oxidation. As a result (nearly 30 years later), the set is in mint condition.
|About North Drums|
According to Wikipedia, North drums are horn shaped drums that were designed to project their sound outward, so the audience can hear the most direct qualities of the drum.
Their inventor, Roger North, created the drums sometime around 1968, played them himself, and then in 1970 obtained a patent (3,603,194) and began selling the drums to others in about 1972. The original North drums were made of fiberglass, by hand. Sometime around 1976 North agreed to let another company, Music Technology Incorporated (MTI), manufacture and market the drums hopefully in larger numbers. MTI began to market and produce the drums using an injection-molded polystyrene process.
They stopped selling the drums in the early 1980s and now there is a used market for the drums, and a small though loyal contingent of North Drum players. Chad Channing was known for using North drums in the early years of Nirvana.
|A few words about the owner|
The owner of this drum set is a renowned collector who has decided to reduce his collection at this time. He has a broad assortment of carousel horses, classic jukeboxes, vintage motor bikes and other rare but cool items etc. He has been featured in many newspaper and magazine articles and judging by this rare drum kit, he clearly only collects the best.
