1970 Original Porsche 914-6 Race Car with 911 Race Motor + Spare Motor
I am pleased to offer this 1970 Porsche 914-6 race car. The car was born as an actual 914-6 (see pictured COA in picture section). Currently, a 911 race motor has been mounted in the car but has not been run yet and the installation needs to be finalized. Car comes with a valid and clear title but it is not street legal in it’s current state. VIN # is 9140432139.
Motor was sourced from a 1967 911 race car (value $13,000). Has not been run in approx. 1-2 years. Block # 6124267. According to the owner, we have never run this engine. It will need to be setup the rest of the way to run in a 914 since it has 911 oil coolers on it. It has the upgraded cam tensioners.
Complete from air cleaners to exhaust to flywheel. 2.7 mag case with 2.7 RS pistons and cylinders, 40 Webers, S cams, ARP rod bolts, George’s headers with megaphones and aluminum flywheel. I just removed this from a 67S to be replaced with a proper aluminum 2.0 for vintage. This was the legendary Mike Hammond’s time trial engine. For those of you who have seen the car run you know it was fast. It runs great, no leaks or smoke. Truly a plug in and go 200+ hp engine. Motor alone was purchased for $13,000.
– Also includes another race motor which must be put back together (see pictures)
See balance of description and history below:
This 914 started life as an original 914-6. In 1987, the car was purchased by the previous owner and he proceeded to add 7” front flairs and 9” rear flares. Vehicle was stripped down to bare metal. 914 race car spot welds were added to give the chassis additional strength. A full welded roll cage was installed. The car was painted guards red inside and out.
Over many years of racing, Aircooled Classics in Knoxville, Tenn., continued to tune and modify the car. In November of 2000, a Quafle ATB differential was added to vehicle. Adjustable rear coils were installed. The car was raced until mid 2007 according to PCA race logbooks. That is when the engine suffered a main bearing failure. We were told that the engine was immediately shut down and towed into pits. Engine was disassembled and inspected. The engine is a dual plug setup with crank sensor ignition and dual-coils. The crankshaft will need to be repaired. Everything else looks good. The previous owner spared no expense while racing the car. Sadly, the owner died during the rebuild process. Car was bought as it sits. Intentions were to put the car back together and go racing. Too many projects and not enough time. A great photo album and receipts are included with the car.

I have not personally inspected this vehicle. I am relying on the pictures and descriptions provided by the seller. I can tell based on pictures and conversations with the owner that this 914-6 has great potential and needs to be rebuilt. A great project for any skilled mechanic.
