1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie Skyliner Hardtop Retractable Show Car
Offered today is a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie Skyliner Hardtop Retractable. Excellent show condition combined with a truly rare color as well as a boat load of factory options makes this Skyliner a rare and desireable find.
The 1959 Skyliner is the rarest and most desirable of the three years of production ('57-'59) and the only one to also have the additional name GALAXIE, which was the highest trim package offered by Ford. Odometer reads 150 miles which is believed to be 100,150 miles but only approx. 1000 miles since total restoration.

Factory options include:
Painted in it's original April Green (Paint code G), this beauty certainly stands out among the sea of red and white Skyliners and equally common Belairs (Painted in any color). As you can see in the pictures, it was painted one tone green whereas most cars of this vintage were painted two tone. Of the 12,915 Skyliners produced, I can only wonder how many have survived and are in this condition and then how many are painted in this one tone April Green. Truly rare indeed.
Car includes a non-original AM/FM cassette stereo. The stereo is a Ford vintage-looking unit so it fits perfectly in with the dash.
This car is garaged and lovingly maintained. It is only used for local car shows and has taken many top awards and always garners much attention. Retract the roof and watch the crowds gather. Clearly not an average Skyliner!!
Cowl tag information is as follows:
One could not restore a Skyliner today for twice the reserve price of this car. Truly a rare and desireable car being offered for a very reasonable reserve. Take advantage today!!
The retractable hardtop model was introduced by Ford in 1957 and continued in production through 1959. The steel roof retracts into the trunk with the push of a button. To accomplish this, Ford used 7 reversable motors, 10 solenoids, 8 circuit breakers, 10 multifunction switches, and 610 feet of wiring! 30,000 were built between 1957 and 1959 with only 12,915 being built in 1959. The early Skyliner models during 1959 were "Fairlane 500". The late 1959 Skyliner models were "Galaxies".
Comparing the Skyliner production of 12,915 to it's main competition of the time, the Chevy Belair, the Belair production was 773,382 units in 1955, 669,281 units in 1956 and 702,651 units in 1957. The Skyliner once again proves to be a very rare car relative to the Belair.
