1962 Austin Healey 3000 MK II BT7 Tri Carb – One owner, original owner since 1962. You are reading this ad correctly. One owner (original owner) since 1962.
Incredible ownership history is available on this 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MK II BT7 (4 seater) Tri Carb. Car is red with original cream interior with red piping and comes complete with factory hardtop and original window sticker. VIN # is HBT7L/18524. Engine # 29E/RU/H.4009.
1962 is the only year that had factory installed triple carburetors as standard equipment and also is the last year of the true Roadster. According to Healey experts, it is one of the most handsome and desirable of the big Healeys produced, with the vertical grill, high performance engine, and the 2+2 roadster body.
Original options according to the window sticker:
– Adj. steering
– Hardtop (was originally black – painted red in the ’70’s)
– Undercoating
– Seatbelts
– Radio
– Luggage Rack
– Floor Mats
– Mirrors (2)
Original MSRP back in 1962 was $3553.70.
This big Healey is being offered in excellent mechanical condition. Car was repainted once in the 1970’s and is in very good original condition. Mileage in 1986 was 97,XXX but at present, the odometer is not working. Owner estimates that he travelled 1000 miles per year since 1986 making the total mileage approx. 120k miles.
Will include:
– Original hardtop with ceiling pulley storage system
– Original owner’s manual
– Workshop manual (photocopy)
– Parts manual (photocopy)
– Healey posters and other memorabilia
– Extra front and rear re-chromed bumpers with 5 over riders
– Brand new black convertible top (top frames missing)
– Large collection of invoices for parts. Owner did most of the work personally
– Large collection of miscellaneous spare parts
– Includes tow bar assembly
Car is in extremely original condition. These original examples have become very desirable of late.
– Floors are original and in solid condition
– Gas tank is solid and has been cleaned and serviced
– Paint is in highly original condition and was repainted in the 1970’s
– Interior is highly original with lots of patina. Front seats were protected for 52 years and look great. Carpets are worn as you’d expect. Dash has some flaws and cracks. Rear section of interior shows wear and has some flaws. Overall presentable as original.
– Wire wheels were changed from original 48 spoke to later 60 spoke models
– Tires have good tread but date back to the 90’s and should be replaced.
Four flaws that I noted include:
– A previous rust repair has broken away behind the drivers door (see picture)
– A tire tread split many years ago caused damage to the rear metal section behind the rear wheel (drivers side). See picture. Should be able to be bent and molded back to original.
– Odometer is not working
– Convertible top frame is missing. Owner may find it prior to new owner taking delivery but we can’t be sure so it’s noted as missing.
The Austin Healey / British Motor Corporation built 5,095 model BT7 four-seaters, and 355 two-seaters in 1961 -1962. Power was 132 bhp at 4,750 rpm. The use of the three carburetors was for competition purposes, since regulations allowed a change in the size, but not the number fitted to the production model. This allowed the Austin Healey factory race cars to run three Weber carburetors. Donald Healey was the genius behind these special cars, and is well-known in automotive circles. With his son Geoffrey, their competition success was the result of rigorous preparation, and a dedicated team that set speed records in the 1950’s and competed in the Mille Miglia, Le Mans 24- Hour and Sebring races in the 1960’s.
