1983 Delorean DMC-12 3500 Miles 5 Speed Original Survivor Beauty 1 Owner
I am pleased to offer this incredible 1983 DeLorean DMC-12, 1 owner from new, 3,500 original miles, totally original, time capsule survivor. VIN # is SCEDT26T9DD020046.
This 1983 DeLorean is an example of the last (and arguably one of the best) years of the all too brief DMC-12 model.
The condition of this car is highly original and very well preserved. The car shows very few signs of age and shows only 3,500 +/- original miles on the odometer! The current owner is only the second owner from new.
This DeLorean is completely original and still has the original stainless steel body panels and original finish applied. All of the body panels are ripple, dent, and rust free and have never had any sort of body or accident damage.
The finish is in extremely nice overall condition and retains its original finish, obviously the result of the car being garage kept all of its life.
The glass and seals are in very nice condition and there are no leaks evident.
The interior is trimmed in the original gray leather. The seating areas are in very nice original condition, as are the door panels, dashboard, and console. The carpet is also in very nice original condition.
All of the accessories including the radio are in working order. The dashboard includes a speedometer and tachometer as well as a radio, fuel gauge, ammeter, and oil pressure and water temperature gauges.
The electric windows are in perfect working condition. The electric window motors have been checked and re-installed. The door locks also work as well. The trunk area appears well preserved, the trunk carpet is in almost perfect condition, and the spare tire, wheel and trunk accessories are all present and in place.
The gullwing doors are also in perfect working order, with the door struts having been recently replaced.
The underside of the car is in line with a 3,500 mile car and is very well preserved.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION:
All of the mechanical aspects of the car have been inspected and repaired, if necessary. The motor is original to the car, with all numbers and codes matching, and the transmission is the optional and desirable 5-speed manual.
All of the engine, transmission, and differential fluids have been changed, all belts have been replaced, the cooling system flushed out, and a new battery installed.
The engine bay is completely original, with all components in operational condition. Every detail of the engine compartment is well preserved. There is some minor wear to certain painted surfaces due to age, but overall, it is very presentable.
TIRES AND WHEELS:
The tires are the original equipment Goodyear tires that were delivered new with the car. There is almost no wear evident. If the new owner does intend to drive the car, I would recommend removing the tires and preserving them, and purchasing a new set for driving purposes. Michelin and Pirelli make the correct size to fit the front and rear wheels.
The aluminum wheels are in very nice original condition and have with very minimal wear evident.
Thoughts on Originality...
Desirability inevitably drives any market. Over the past few years, it has become increasingly evident that there is a shift in valuation going on in the vintage car market insofar as fully restored automobiles are being supplanted at the summit of the industry by well preserved (and sometimes even not so well preserved) original examples of similar cars. Originality and value for classic cars go hand in hand. This has been the case in other collectible genres, so it is not surprising that the collector car market is tacking in this direction.
In all genres of collectible and historical artifact, few things are valued more than originality. Well preserved and cared for examples of rare and relevant pieces of history have no substitute in terms of importance in the historical record. From historically relevant fine art to the time tested mechanical ingenuity of a by gone era, well kept original pieces sit at the top of the food chain.
A preservation automobile needs to be analyzed and protected, and as such, this car has gone through a comprehensive program to not only bring out the true patina of a car, but also to document the car thoroughly from it’s history before we came into contact with it to the creation of a comprehensive logging system we’ve created that will be a starting point for future provenance.
This car is eligible for judging under FIVA Standards “Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens” and would be welcome at any concours with a preservation class.
“The point is to preserve the original (automobile), so as not to be perfect, but extremely well kept and treated without leading to the creation of the new (car)...” — Smithsonian Mantra
This 1983 DeLorean still retains all of its original components! This means the engine, transmission, rear end, etc. are original to the car. All of the numbers, markings, etc., are correct. Any replacement part used has been an N.O.S or exact original reproduction part purchased from DMC Motors in Houston. It is an original and very special car that, as evidenced by the low mileage, has been driven very sparingly during the last 29 years…
According to the owner: "This DeLorean is the most unmolested and original example I have ever seen! If you’ve never driven a DMC-12 of this period, you are in for a treat with this one!"
There is absolutely nothing that needs to be done to this car to drive it occasionally and enjoy it as a showpiece. Again, if the new owner decides to drive it in vintage events or on a regular basis, the car should be gone over for safety and new tires should be installed, etc. The correct size is still available although Goodyear no longer manufactures them. Either way, the new owner will have a fantastic original DeLorean to drive and show.

Recent Comp. Sales
A similar Delorean with 4100 miles recently (April 2012) sold at the Barrett Jackson Palm Beach auction for $61,600 (includes buyers commission). A tremendous result for sure - this one with less mileage is being offered for a lower price. Truly an investment opportunity.
- Super low mileage since new (3500 Miles)
- Excellent original condition
- Fully sorted and ready to drive
I have not personally inspected or photographed this vehicle. I am relying on the pictures and descriptions provided by the seller. I can tell based on conversations with the owner that this 1983 Delorean is in excellent condition with super low miles.
Clearly, there are Deloreans out there for much less money, but if you want to drive one of these iconic 80's cars and your standards are very high, this is the car that you should be buying.
