1993 Mercedes Benz 500E (040) Jet Black 42k Miles Pristine and Mint
In case the Mercedes Benz 500E is on your automotive bucket list, you can now cross that one off of your list.
I am pleased to offer this gorgeous 1993 Mercedes 500E W124 sport sedan. The car comes equipped with a 5.0 Liter 322 HP motor. It sold new for approx. $80k in 1993 and has maintained legendary status ever since. The VIN# is WDBEA36E1PB881389.
The history of the 500E is well documented and for those in the know, this is a landmark model in Mercedes history. This car was conceived by Mercedes and was virtually hand built by Porsche, so it is renowned for being the ultimate in build quality, even by Mercedes high standards of the time.
This car is beautiful in it's rare Jet Black exterior (paint code 040) and flawless tan leather interior. This is the rare Jet Black and not the more common Pearl Black. I am told that only 105 500E's were painted Jet Black in 1993 (have not confirmed however).
It is being offered with an incredibly low 42,XXX pampered miles. I have yet to see one with such low mileage and in such incredible condition. This beauty has been Mercedes dealer maintained and is up to date with all its service needs. It includes a Mercedes phone in the front with Mercedes extention in the rear (how cool is that?) as well as new Michelin Pilot tires - it is ready to go and needs nothing.
The previous owner added a new battery, did a complete fluid change and had some minor stone chips professionally touched up.
Most 500E's have high mileage because they are such a thrill to drive. I suspect that the original owner of this car did not take full advantage of the joy of driving this car but as they say: "his lose is your gain."
This is truly a rare find. Don't miss this opportunity to own a true "super car".
Below is a complete explanation of every page of the service binder for this 500E:
According to Supercars.net "The 1993 Mercedes 500E is perhaps the most desirable and collectable Mercedes of the last 20 years." If you've ever owned one, I'm sure you'd agree.
Developed in conjunction with Porsche, the Mercedes 500E was based on the popular 300E model which had been released in 1986. Each 500E was transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen during assembly and hand built, taking a full 18 days to complete each model. It was produced between 1992-94 in which time approximately 7200 cars were built.
Besides a totally new engine, the 500E was also equipped with a hydraulic self-leveling suspension, 11.8 inch vented discs in the front and 10.9 inchers in the back, wider wheels and tires and shorter and stiffer springs which lowered the 500E nearly an inch over the 300E. While the resulting slalom time is nothing to boast about (61 mph), the 500E still manages a healthy 0.84g on the skidpad and a sports-car-like 116 ft stopping distance. The engine was the same unit used in the 500SL but with a Bosch LH Jetronic fuel injection replacing the KE Jetronic and a redesigned intake manifold with longer runners that resulted in an additional 22 lb-ft of torque over that powerplant. The four speed automatic transmission and rear axle were also sourced from the 500SL and the 500E was also equipped with standard ASR (traction control). While there was no factory option for an override switch, many aftermarket tuners could provide this, lowering 0-60 mph times into the 5 second ranges. There were a few other slight faults with the 500E as well. The single windshield wiper arm was not very efficient and the interior ergonomics were less than perfect while for the price, the 500E could still not deliver the same amount of all-out performance as the E34 M5.
The Mercedes was however an excellent Autobahn cruiser and could deliver a ride comfort and effortless power delivery at higher speeds in a manner that even the BMW M5 could not match.
Sell your soul for this car. This is perhaps the best driving sedan available. Acceleration is instant and brutal right off the line on up to any speed you want to try. Flooring it off the line will invoke ASR and leave everyone pinned to their seats. Handling is ultra precise with immense grip. The lowered stance and flared fenders look outstanding yet are still mature and stealth. Drive the car at 1/3 or 1/4 throttle and your passengers are cocooned in utmost comfort. The adaptive suspension resolves the ride/handling argument as well as anything to date. One dig in the throttle awakens the car with a deep V8 growl that mutates into a fierce roar that sounds great but never gets intrusive or loud. The seats are bolstered to match the car's handling potential. The ABS aided brakes stop the car fast and straight from any speed with no noticeable fade. The transmission starts in second gear to smooth take off but a heavy foot or use of the trademark shifter makes 1st quite accessible. The 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly and in a unobtrusive manner if left to its own decisions. Thankfully Mercedes has retained the gated shifter that allows manu-matic shifting. This configuration still seems the best compromise between automatics and manuals.
The present owner of this car is a true 500E enthusiast currently owning 2 of these supercars and he has owned a total of 4 500E's to date. He really appreciates and understands these cars and notes that this car is IMMACULATE and PRISTINE. There are other 500E's available for less money but none will compare to this car. If you are looking for a top quality investment grade 500E, this is definitely it!!
Vehicle Condition - - I have not personally inspected or photographed this vehicle. I am relying on the pictures and descriptions provided by the seller. I can however tell that this car is an exceptional vehicle in excellent condition. No disappointments here. Super low mileage combined with a super rare car make this a great buying opportunity. This great Mercedes has no cosmetic or mechanical issues. Everything works and everything looks great.
I invite and encourage any interested party to inspect this car in Laredo, TX. and determine for yourself that this car is truly in excellent condition. Seeing is really believing. No disappointments here. A pre-purchase inspection is welcomed. This car is currently owned by an almost obsessive Mercedes owner. You will not see many 500E's in this condition, with this low mileage for this price.
This super car needs nothing except some garage space and a new owner who is ready to show it off. Be prepared to turn heads at every corner.
