Gary Kelly Original Oil on Canvas 'Encontro Amorosa' Gary Kelley is the most awarded illustrator/artist at the NY Society of illustrators. His cubist-inspired art moderne style has delighted the public for more than 25 years. His work has appeared in magazines, on murals, books and products worldwide. What makes Gary so unique is that he can shift gears so easily and work on a Barnes & Noble mural one day, a book cover for Simon & Schuster the next, and in between works on fine art commissions. He is always in demand. Last year he was called by Jan Wenner, the founder and publisher of Rolling Stone, to create a mural that hung behind the stage at Madison Square Garden for the 25th anniversary concert of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It was an honor to have his work be seen by an audience of hundreds of millions people on HBO in the USA, and a global network worldwide in prime time. The likes of Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger, Fergie, and a host of inductees from years past were featured.
As an illustrator, Gary Kelley has won 27 gold and silver medals from the Society of Illustrators in New York, as well as Best-In-Show recognitions in both New York and Los Angeles illustrators’ exhibitions. He was elected to Society of Illustrators (NY) Hall of Fame in 2007.
Gary’s list of clients includes Time, Rolling Stone, Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, and Playboy Magazines. Also, The Los Angeles Times and The Boston Globe, Hartford Stage, Arena Stage, The Santa Fe Opera and Geffen Playhouse, plus numerous advertising and design firms. He created the murals featuring famous authors for Barnes and Noble Bookstores nationwide. Has also worked for the NFL and the NBA and was the official artist for the 2002 Kentucky Derby. He has illustrated a number of picture books, including The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Rip Van Winkle, The Necklace, Poe’s Tales of Mystery and Imagination and Macbeth for Young Readers.
Gary has had one-man-shows at the Academy of Art in Cincinnati, The University of the Arts (Philadelphia), Lustrare Gallery (New York), Every Picture Tells a Story (Santa Monica), Hartford (CT) Art School, Art Institute of California (Laguna Beach), The Kentucky Derby Museum, Creation Gallery in Tokyo, and the Pablo Neruda Cultural Center-Bagnolet (Paris) France.
