| Kent Barton Original Scratchboard 'Pope John's Historic Visit to the US'
Scratchboard derives from old-world engraving and is best known for the illuminated manuscripts of the middle ages, which gives Kent's work a certain historical gravitas even when his subjects are fresh and new. In 2003 he completed work for the Wright Dunbar Interpretive Center, culminating in life size figures of the Wright Brothers for an interactive exhibit in the museum. He was also commissioned to illustrate six portraits of sports figures which are permanently displayed as metal plaques in the University of Oregon football stadium. Recently, a mural of his work was installed in the new headquarters of Liberty Pointe Bank in New York City.
