Breda BMW Prototype Barchetta Documented Race HistoryI am pleased to present this historically significant two-time Championship-winning sports prototype race car. Built by Breda Racing of Ronchi, Italy – a European racing works car with extensive world racing involvement including Formula One.
This Breda Barchetta (Model BRP5C-02, Chassis No. 5490) was built in 1998 in Italy and it is the ex-works (factory team) race car that was originally owned by two-time European Championship driver Fabio Danti, who won the 1998 Swiss Grand Prix driving this car. While racing an Osella BMW in 2000, Mr. Danti died in a crash 100-meters from the finish of the Caprino-Spiazzi Hillclimb. The Lima-Abetone Trophy for that event has been renamed the Fabio Danti Trophy in his honor.
The car was then sold to Fabio Valle, another European racing driver who went on to win the Italian Sports Prototype Championship in 1999, in this car.
This important Breda Barchetta is a complete race car ready for the paddock – with a powerful 3.0-liter normally aspirated BMW M-Power Racing engine, full body, analog and digital instruments, onboard computer, onboard data collection, regulation harness, fire suppression system and the full compliment of racing equipment. Also included is a large inventory of spares including: - Wheel sets - Tire sets - Body panels and all of the molds to make new panels
It has been campaigned in three colors – bright yellow, white, and red, its current color. The paint on the panels is in very good condition, and it presently wears only the BMW and M-Power logos, the Italian GP Championship decal, and its long-time “28” car number.
Also included is the complete racing history, full FIA documentation and log books, and press clippings of the racing pedigree. The car is vintage racing eligible (in many regions and vintage clubs).
The Breda Barchetta CN3 is in the racing genre of the 2-seat open-cockpit (“Barchetta”) very similar to other sports prototype race cars, such as the Lola and Dallara chassis sports prototype cars of the Daytona Prototype and American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in North America, and FIA GT in Europe.
ENGINE: 3.0-liter M-Power BMW Racing Engine factory-built by BMW and tuned by Breda Racing and Ellegi Motori of Italy, with an Ellegi Motori ECU and data system. We have not retrieved any of the stored data on the ECU (we do not have the equipment to do that). The time on the engine is not known, but the ECU and log books are available for your inspection at our Scottsdale location. HORSEPOWER: Approximate horsepower is estimated at near 400-bhp. We have dyno graphs, in Metric units and in Italian. However, a fresh dyno by the new owner will provide the actual current horsepower. TRANSAXLE: Breda Racing-installed Hewland 5-speed Transaxle, “quick change” type, so all of the gears can be changed in about 30 minutes. We do not know the current gear ratios, but they can be removed and inspected and changed to suit whatever you prefer. WEIGHT: Exact weight is unknown, but it is unchanged or near its prior technical inspection certified weights (unknown). COCKPIT SIZE: The cockpit is ready to accept your custom-made racing seat or direct molded foam, and most driver sizes will be comfortable inside this cockpit. The largest driver we have placed in the cockpit (without a seat or foam pads) is 5’10 and 220lbs, with plenty of room to spare.
Car is located in Scottsdale, AZ. Price: Please contact Ron for pricing
