Carousel Band Organ Accordian Orchestrion

You are here   >  Sold  >  Sold Items

I am pleased to present this wonderful carousel organ lovingly built by Ken Caulkins of Ragtime Automated Music of Ceres, CA. This machine is the one that started it all. It was built in 1995 and is Serial #0001. This carousel organ is modeled after the famous carousel band organs of the early 1900's.

This machine features the following instruments:

- Accordian
- Flute pipes
- Bass Drum
- Snare Drum
- Glockenspiel
- Tambourine
- Triangle
- Wood Block
- Cymbal
- Castenets

The music is produced using "0" rolls. Each O roll contains approx. 12 songs. Owner will include 1 "O" roll with the purchase and others may be purchased separately.

These machines were selling for nearly $20,000 approx. 20 years ago thru the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog.

According to the builders website:

With nearly 25 years experience in producing quality Nickelodeons, Calliopes and Band Organs, we give you this extraordinary machine! Relatively small in stature in measures a mere 46" wide, 24" deep and 6’7" high and weighing about 300 lbs. If you have heard it, you know that there is no doubt left in your mind that a carousel must be close by.

The 24 wooden reed pipes are authentic in construction. The 27 note glockenspiel provides that familiar ring. The 31 Calliope pipes match exactly the sound of a Magic Flute and the 41 note accordion adds bass and texture to the music and since it actually squeezes in and out it adds animation too. Our large 18" bass drum and 12" snare provide rhythm while the tambourine and cymbal keep time. To finish off a musical passage the triangle is always there while the castanets add charm.

You may select the rank of reeds from the accordion to add more bass or treble. The doors on the top and bottom open to voice the instrument to your liking - from quiet to boisterous. All our instruments play 15 tune “O” rolls that rewind to play again. The front of the cabinet comes off after removing 6 screws in the back. This allows immediate and easy access to all components for any future adjustment. All components are modular and easy to exchange or add. Simply unplug and replace.

A few words about the owner

The owner of this great item is a renowned collector who has decided to reduce his collection at this time. He has a broad assortment of carousel horses, classic jukeboxes, vintage motor bikes, orchestrions and other rare but cool items etc. He has been featured in many newspaper and magazine articles and judging by this machine, he clearly only collects the best. Be sure to check my other auctions and website for these unique items.
